BIOGRAPHY

Sally Mayes is a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominated actress best known for play Ilona in the 1993 revival of She Loves Me on Broadway. She made her Broadway debut in April 1989 as Winona Shook in Cy Coleman's Welcome to the Club. For her performance she won a Theatre World Award. Other Broadway credits include her performance as Aunt Corene in Urban Cowboy, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination, and Steel Magnolias covering Truvy and M’Lynn. Off-Broadway credits include the original Off-Broadway production of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire's Closer Than Ever, Brunnhilde in Jim Luigs's Das Barbecu, and Keely in James Hindman's critically acclaimed musical Pete 'n' Keely. For her performance she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical. Most recently she toured the United States in a production of Claudia Shear's and James Lapine's Dirty Blonde, and appeared Off-Broadway in Play It Cool.

In film Mayes has appeared as Mrs. MacAfee in the television movie version of Bye Bye Birdie, in the films Double Parked, City Hall, and The Producers. On TV she appeared on Sex and the City in the episode Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda and Law & Order: Criminal Intent as Brenda in the episode Crazy. Mayes is also a frequent concert and cabaret singer in New York City.
