Kevin MASSEY
BIO
Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Kevin Massey’s journey to Broadway was unusual and unexpected. While he enjoyed performing growing up, his goal was to become a doctor. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill as a Music Major on the Pre-Med track, a friend convinced him to move to NYC for one crazy year before going off to med school for 8-12 more years. Arriving in NYC with no agent, no union membership and no connections, Kevin started at the bottom, waiting in line until he got his chance to sing 8 bars of music. Suddenly, he found himself on the European tour of GREASE! playing Doody and began to imagine a life in the theater. After making his Broadway debut in the Tony Nominated Sign Language Rival of BIG RIVER, he decided perhaps this is where his path should go for now. Since then, Kevin’s been in 3 more broadway shows, understudying and playing the leads in the original cast of TARZAN (Tarzan), Tony Winning MEMPHIS (Huey), and Tony Winning A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER (Monty). He re-created Monty for the 1st National Tour of GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE, toured with BIG RIVER, and played Tarzan in german in the Hamburg production of TARZAN.
He’s originated lead roles in BONNIE & CLYDE (Ted, Asolo Rep), LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRE (Almanzo, Guthrie, Paper Mill, 1st National Tour), THREE MUSKETEERS (D’Artagnan, Chicago Shakespeare), BELLA, An American Tall Tale (Bonny Johnny/Snaggletooth, Playwrights Horizons), GRUMPY OLD MEN (Jacob, Ogunquit), THE RIVALS musical (Jack Absolute, Bristol Riverside Theater). Kevin’s also worked as a lead at some great regional theaters including PCLO, NSMT, Utah Shakes, and the MUNY as well as some reputable regional opera houses including Opera Memphis, Asheville Lyric Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Ash Lawn Opera Festival and continues a healthy concert career throughout the country. Kevin’s used his ability to sing in many different styles and his varied experience to create a well rounded career. In addition, he started a bluegrass country trio, created a Brazilian musical theater workshop, has done music prep work for many productions with composers like Jeanine Tesori and Diedre Murray, has been sought out for council on how to use your money wisely, and regularly teaches workshops around the country. His most important roles have been husband to his beautiful wife, Kara Lindsay, and father to their new born son!
“I absolutely love teaching and helping fellow performers navigate this exciting and scary world of performing. I believe every path is unique. You can’t compare yourself to others since each of you has to find your own motivations and goals. I want to help you find all of those things that make you uniquely you in order to stand out amongst the noise, to remain positive, and to push yourself to be a better performer and a more complete you. I’ve had to find my own way and want to help you find yours: choosing a school, finding the right teacher, agents, auditions, unions, survival jobs, networking in a positive way, starting your own business or side hustle, finding and keeping friends that lift you up and motivate you, and maybe even finding love along the way. These are all part of our journey in the business, and I want to help you navigate that!” - Kevin
